Description
These paintings were made in the tumultuous years of 2019 and 2020. ‘Habitat’ and ‘Inferno’ were painted during the fire of Notre Dame and the California wildfires; ‘Dark Waters’ during the Covid-19 pandemic, and the 2020 election. All three works share certain qualities—an anxiety about the present or the future, and a nostalgia or sense of loss for something waning—a home, a community, an idyllic vision of the past. They can be read as commentaries on environment, but they can also be viewed as more personal metaphors.
