Covid immediately sent me into lockdown mode, since I have lung issues. With my life under threat from the very air I breathed, my four walls became my refuge. The trees outside my window, bursting into bud and blossom, created a dissonance between my hermit life and their exuberant show of life. They drew me outdoors to a weedy patch just a few yards away.
There I picked wildflowers to brighten my hermitage, and they ended up in a vase beside my computer and printer/scanner. I’d never tried scanography, but it happened now, almost without my deciding to do it. These floral companions became my subjects, and the shallow depth of field gave their portraits an ethereal quality. The images matched the fragility I felt and the uncertain tenuousness of life.
