Originals: Opening Reception
Friday, May 15, 2026
6:00pm – 10:00pm
The Art Center Highland Park (TAC) proudly announces the opening of ORIGINALS, a landmark exhibition celebrating boundary‑pushing creativity across generations. The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday, May 15 at 6:00 PM, an evening that brings together world‑class visual art, iconic Chicago cultural history, and an unforgettable live performance by one of the most influential jazz artists of our time.
At the heart of ORIGINALS is a major presentation of photography by internationally acclaimed artist Sandro Miller, whose emotionally charged, visually arresting work has shaped contemporary portraiture. Miller’s images—known for their cinematic depth and human precision—anchor the exhibition with a powerful exploration of identity, presence, and artistic truth.
Complementing Miller’s work is a curated selection of pieces by members of The Hairy Who, the legendary Chicago art group whose irreverent, wildly imaginative style helped define the city’s avant‑garde movement of the 1960s. Their inclusion underscores TAC’s commitment to honoring Chicago’s artistic lineage while fostering dialogue with today’s creative voices.
The evening will also feature a special one‑hour concert by world‑renowned jazz innovator Kahil El’Zabar, whose visionary approach to rhythm and improvisation has made him a global ambassador for Chicago’s creative music tradition. El’Zabar’s performance will transform the galleries into a living, breathing soundscape—an experience that embodies the spirit of originality the exhibition celebrates.
“ORIGINALS is more than an exhibition—it’s a statement about who we are and what the North Shore can be when we champion bold ideas and authentic artistic expression,” said James, Executive Director of The Art Center Highland Park. “This is a rare opportunity for our community to engage with artists who have shaped cultural conversations locally, nationally, and internationally.”
