Illinois Watercolor Society Opening Reception

Friday, Jun 26, 2026

5:30pm – 8:00pm

The Art Center Highland Park welcomes a historic group of watercolor artists for a legendary summer exhibition. This show will feature members of the Illinois Watercolor Society, a group that is celebrating over 40 years of history on the North Shore. This show will feature the height of the Society’s talent, with artworks being available for purchase in a six-week showcase throughout The Art Center’s gallery spaces.

Established in 1981, the Illinois Watercolor Society’s mission has been to advance the education and caliber of watercolor painting throughout Illinois. The Society’s inaugural exhibition was held at the Redfield Estate at The Grove in Glenview, Illinois in 1982, a cottage on a vast 123 acres of prairie land, now designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Department of Interior. In 1982, it became a venue for the Society to introduce themselves to the world by covering the cottage walls with watercolor paintings.

Over four decades later, the Society now chooses to hold its crowning exhibition at The Art Center Highland Park. On display you will find a variety of watercolor techniques: direct, indirect, collage, transparent, and opaque methods. Other water soluble mediums make an appearance in these paintings, including gouache, acrylic, and ink.

Join us for their Opening Reception on Friday, June 26th from 5:30-8pm with refreshments and light bites.
