From Easel to Gallery to Auction – Navigating the Art Marketplace
Thursday, Jan 23, 2025
6:00pm – 7:30pm
Artists, do you wish you better understood how the art marketplace works? How does something get from your studio, into a gallery, into collector’s hands, or to auction… while you are still alive? Mary Longe studied in London at Sotheby’s Institute of Art, learning the answers. This is not a magic bullet, nor is it a how-to marketing session. With this session, you will understand the art marketplace, and. what it takes and where to put your efforts. Using real life examples of artists who started working at different points in their lives, you’ll see that it’s never too late and it’s never too early, either… The point is to be intentional right from the time you decide you want to be taken seriously. This session provides actionable recommendations and resources. Longe warns, “I am not an expert, more of an artist-explorer bringing back finds to share.”
Mary Longe is an artist and the former Executive Director of Plein Air Painters Chicago. Her work history includes founding and managing a business designing specialty resource centers for hospitals, and twenty years with the American Hospital Association, where she developed and shepherded marketing strategies for businesses with technologies that helped hospitals run better. Mary has always been a creative and besides her own art practice, she works with art collectors to organize their collections. www.marylonge.com
