6:00pm – 8:00pm

Object-Oriented, The Art Center’s upcoming exhibition theme features the work of three incredibly talented artists/designers, all working in various mediums to create art in 3-D. One such artist is designer, educator, and visionary, Norman Teague: named by the legendary Theaster Gates as one of his five creative leaders of the future, Teague was recently listed in Newcity Magazine’s ‘Design Top 50’. Norman Teague is a Chicago-based designer and educator whose practice focuses on using design as an agent for change and as a mechanism to empower black and brown communities. Teague holds a BA focused on Product Design from Columbia College Chicago, and a MFA in Designed Objects from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Teague is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

3-D artist Michael Thompson, a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, has been prolific, expressing himself through an array of media, which include collage, sculpture, painting, ceramics, etching, papier-mâché, dolls, and jewelry. Most known for his kites have been featured in the lobby of the Goodman Theatre, as set dressing on the sci-fi TV series Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.

The third artist to be featured in this exhibition is Zachary Weber, who has a fast-rising reputation for his innovative approach to ceramics. Weber graduated with a merit scholarship from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), BFA (2021). Living and working in Chicago, IL, Weber draws endless inspiration from the aesthetic, political, and conceptual conditions of the city and has been influenced by artists such as Norman Teague.
