Festival of Fine Arts

Unfortunately, due to health concerns related to
the COVID-19 (Coronavirus), Festival of Fine Arts is cancelled.

To All Concerned;

Re: Festival of Fine Arts, 2020

The Art Center Highland Park has made the difficult decision to cancel our 22nd Festival of Fine Arts for the 2020 season (June 27, 28). We have been closely monitoring the circumstances of COVID-19 with the extreme optimism that, at least by the end of June, some version of a live outdoor festival would be possible.

We have been in constant contact with the City of Highland Park about options and to find out how they are handling other summer events. For example, they plan to allow the French Market to go forward, but with spaced apart booths and as a drive through market, not a strolling event. We were constantly looking for options and brainstorming ways to honor our commitment to artists as well as our local community. We’ve pushed back deadlines for applications, etc., but at this point, with less than 45 days before the event, we reluctantly make this final decision.

We outsource production to Chicago Special Events Management and they will be sending notifications to all the artist who have signed up or paid fees. Their staff is mostly furloughed but they will make sure that refunds get processed within 7-10 business days.

A note about TACHP. This year marks our 60th Anniversary. We provide over 500 classes each year for all ages and skills levels and have been doing a tremendous outreach program to underserved populations in our area. We gave out 200 scholarships last year. We operate three galleries and produce over 20 exhibits a year. We are a 501C3 not for profit with a mostly part-time staff. We are artists serving artists and we’re doing our best to adapt and survive. For example, within three weeks of shutting down our building we had over twenty-four online classes available to our community.

The Festival of Fine Arts is one of three large events we produce each year and we rely heavily on them for our survival. Just this past week we had our annual spring fundraiser as an online virtual event. This week we also decided to cancel all on-site summer classes and summer camp. All of these decisions are virtually devastating to any institution, but we will continue to honor our mission to ‘make art available to all’.

We are well aware that so many artists are suffering from the consequences of this pandemic, personally and economically, and our aim has always been to be fair and equitable. Canceling this event is one of several difficult decisions we are faced with and we ask for your continued support and understanding as we all face uncertain times. If there are any questions or concerns about any topic regarding our festival, please reach out to James M. Lynch, Executive Director, at 847-432-1888, extension #4, or Director of Events Jackie Chilow, extension #3.

Sincerely,

The Art Center Highland Park Staf
